We sat down to chat virtually with Alen O’Farrell, an architect in the Department of Education and Skills, who has built business critical web applications using out-of-the-box functionality in ArcGIS Online. In this recording, Alen walks us through his journey with ArcGIS Online, how he started off with one specific need for a small project and grew the use case internally. He also talks about strategy when it comes to getting buy-in from senior management.
During the technical demonstration, Alen showed us his in-depth approach to design a user friendly dashboard. He walked us through how to choose appropriate colours, a design “hack” and sources of inspiration for his work. We finished off by stepping through a handful of arcade expressions that save his team hours of manual work per week and how to set up spatial data so that’s it’s scalable as datasets grow and requirements change.
Everybody working in the GIS industry (especially in Ireland) will get something valuable from this session.
