Rivers Agency win Special Achievement in GIS at the Esri International User Conference
2011-07-21
Department of Agricultural and Rural Development, Rivers Agency received a Special Achievement in GIS (SAG) Award at the Esri International User Conference (Esri UC) in San Diego, California held July 13, 2011. This award acknowledges vision, leadership, hard work, and innovative use of Esri's geographic information system (GIS) technology.
By making information about flood risks more accessible to a wide number of stakeholders and the general public, the Rivers Agency has been able to encourage more proactive responses to flooding. Individual property owners, businesses and local service providers alike, all have easy access to information about potential risks in their own locations and can be much more prepared.
The Strategic Flood Map helps the Rivers Agency comply with EU legislation and improves the availability of flood risk information to key stakeholders. Flooding can never be entirely prevented but acting together with other organisations and the public, the Rivers Agency can help to reduce its impact on people, property and the environment.
Organizations from around the world honored at the Esri UC, span industries including agriculture, cartography, climate change, defense and intelligence, economic development, education, government, health and human services, telecommunications, and utilities.
"The SAG Awards highlight extraordinary achievements and efforts to improve our world," says Esri president Jack Dangermond. "Each year I look forward to being part of this ceremony. It is a tradition that means a great deal to Esri and to GIS professionals."
