South Dublin County Council and Fingal County Council`s accelerate their GIS Strategy
2009-03-04
After using ESRI GIS solutions for several years, both South Dublin County Council and Fingal County Council are pressing ahead with initiatives to exploit GIS more fully across its entire organisation. Both of these local authorities have signed an Enterprise Licence Agreement (ELA) with ESRI Ireland, which gives it unlimited access to software and maintenance.
Over recent years, South Dublin County Council has made extensive use of ESRI GIS solutions in many different service areas. To facilitate its future plans, South Dublin County Council has signed an enterprise license agreement (ELA) with ESRI Ireland. Under the terms of this contract, the council will gain unlimited access to ESRI products and maintenance, in return for a fixed annual payment. The council has calculated that the ELA will offer it exceptional value for money and give it rapid and flexible access to the software and services that it needs. South Dublin County Council has an in-house spatial da ta services team, which will develop the new council services using ArcGIS. Among the team’s initial plans is a GIS-enabled planning application solution. This online service will enable citizens to view and monitor planning applications via the Internet and see the applications on a digital map.
Fingal County Council have also taken advantage of ESRI Ireland’s Enterprise License Agreement. It plans to make use of the contract to increase its utilisation of GIS throughout the council and improve the dissemination of information both internally and externally. In addition Fingal intends to increase the number of web applications for staff and its e-services available to citizens. This is highlighted by the current work taking place around the Development Plan and how this information is gathered and shared with the public.
