ESRI Ireland appoint Regional Manager for Northern Ireland
2007-08-01
ESRI Ireland is pleased to announce the appointment of John Hewitt as Regional Manager for Northern Ireland. The creation of this role is an indictment of the ever increasing demand for GIS services in both public and private sector organisations in Northern Ireland. It also demonstrates ESRI Ireland’s long term commitment in the north – by engaging at the strategic level to envision how geographic information can produce tangible benefits across the entire enterprise.
John Hewitt has a wealth of GIS experience and has been a valued member of the ESRI Ireland team since 2002. Working as GIS Consultant & Project Manager, he has been an integral part in the successful delivery of spatial solutions spanning desktop to enterprise level. These include organisations such as Ordnance Survey Ireland, Ordnance Survey Northern Ireland, Land & Property Services, Environment & Heritage Service (EHS), Northern Ireland Planning Service and North Down Borough Council to name but a few.
In his new role John, will work closely with ESRI Ireland Senior Management in developing strategy and overseeing operational activity in our Northern Ireland client base. This will include Account Management, Business Development & Analysis, Business Process Improvement and overall Strategic Direction.
Prior to joining ESRI Ireland, John was a senior consultant for Norwegian GIS consultancy, Sysdeco GIS AS and was responsible for business analysis, software development and capacity planning for the Ordnance Survey of Northern Ireland (OSNI) as well as working in a consultancy capacity for Ordnance Survey of Ireland (OSI). Prior to working with Sysdeco, John worked as a technical support specialist with Short Brothers plc during which time he won a special merit award in the 1995 Computer Professional of the Year Awards for being part of a team that implemented a fully ‘lights-out’ computer room across the organisation. John has also worked in software development roles for IBM (UK) Ltd and Queens University, Belfast.
John holds a BSc in Computer Science and an MSc in Engineering Computation from Queen’s University, Belfast. He is an active member of the Association of Geographers in Northern Ireland (AGINI), AGINI’s Mobile GIS Special Interest Group and the British Computer Society.
“ESRI Ireland very much values our clients and the relationships we have built up over the last 5 years in Northern Ireland. This appointment represents our continued investment in those clients, relationships and the Northern Ireland GI community as a whole” says Paul Synnott, Head of Sales. “John has been instrumental in the development of ESRI Irelands business in Northern Ireland and I am very much looking forward to working closer with John in developing the use and application of geographic information for the business benefits of our clients”, he continued.
