Ordnance Survey Northern Ireland (OSNI)

2006-05-23

Ordnance Survey Northern Ireland (OSNI) has commissioned ESRI Ireland to build a workflow comprising a set of tools and process for the integration of the Pointer Address Database and the OSNI Road Centerline database. This will result, for the first time, in the provision of a physical link between the Elementary Street Units (ESU) of the Road Centerline Database and the Unique Street Reference Number (USRN) of the Pointer Dataset.

“There is significant demand within the Northern Ireland marketplace for both a topologically integrated street network dataset that would support routing for police, emergency services and logistics and also for the provision of a BS766 compliant gazetteer. This demand supported our business case for integration of these two data sets” commented Stan Brown, OSNI’s Business Development Director. “This development will enable us to provide more product orientated data sets in line with our policy of supporting business applications with spatial data”.

ESRI Ireland will deliver a number of bespoke software tools developed using ESRI ArcObjects technology for data manipulation and cleansing as well as workflows for data maintenance and update. OSNI personnel will use the supplied tools to carry out the integration. “ArcObjects allows us customize the full gamut of functionality available within ArcGIS Desktop and deploy it in support of a particular workflow” comments Eamonn Doyle, Chief Technology Officer, ESRI Ireland. “Once this data set is complete we look forward to marketing it amongst our existing and prospective clients in Northern Ireland”. The completed data set is expected to be available to customers in July 2006.
