Background -About Location-Allocation

The mantra of "location, location, location" is based on the truth that often where you decide to place your retail outlet, warehouse, hospital, police station, school or health centre will determine how accessible it is relative to the demand for the service it provides and therefore ultimately how successful it is.

Given facilities that provide goods and services and a set of demand points that consume them, the goals of location-allocation is to locate the facilities in a way that supplies the demand points most efficiently.

Presenters:

  • Marie Hogan: GIS Consultant, ESRI Ireland
  • Eamonn Doyle: CTO, ESRI Ireland (for Q&A)

Webinar Objectives: Better Decision Making

As the name suggests location-allocation is a two-fold problem that simultaneously locations facilities and allocates demand points to facilities - ultimately leading to more informed decison making & better outcomes for both public & private sector organisations.

ESRI Ireland has worked in collaboration with a number of it's customers in analysing Location-Allocation problems, and helping better decision making processes.

This webinar is suitable for anyone interested in finding out more about Location-Allocation - It will explore & demonstrate the concepts as well as showing practical examples of customers who are doing this successfully.

We'll be discussing:

  • Location-Allocation Concepts
  • How to match service to demand
  • Using population data to predict demand for services
  • Identifying spatial patterns in demand
  • Creating service areas
  • Evaluating accessibility
  • Modelling what if scenarios
  • Demonstrating practical examples of customers using Location-Allocation modelling
