South Eastern Education and Library Board

The South Eastern Education & Library Board is the local authority for education, library and youth services in the district council areas of Ards, Castlereagh, Down, Lisburn and North Down in Northern Ireland. Its Mission is “to raise the standards of learning and levels of achievement of the people of the Board’s area through the provision of high quality education, library and youth services."

Covering most of Co Down and a small part of Co Antrim, the area served by the Board stretches from Bangor southwards to Newcastle and eastwards from Lisburn and surrounding area over to Portaferry on the Ards Peninsula.

The feature map above is part of a series of maps by sector identifying eligibility for Home to School Transport when applying different eligibility criteria. The buffered areas in green, yellow & red respectively demonstrate the average walking distance that students travel to reach their grammar school. These types of maps have been used for decision making – particularly in the area of policy change impact assessment.
