About this Map
This Interactive Map demonstrates using the Esri Social Media Map template. This particular template enables you to visualise location specific content from YouTube, Twitter and Flickr as well as other User contributed and authoritative content. This Viewer has recently been used sucessfully to provide a platform for crowdsourced content in a range of environmental and social crisis situations.
ArcGIS.com Map Templates are an excellent way to quickly deploy a web mapping applications. They are simple templates designed for common web mapping scenarios. The Templates are typically engineered in JavaScript so they will run without browser plug-in's. This makes them especially useful for public facing applications.
The Templates is open source and can be downloaded from here. Any template can be User configured by a process fully described in the download. If you modify or extend a Template you can share them with the community via our App Gallery where you may also avail of Templates previoulsy shared by others.
To use this application you can navigate the map by pan /zoom using your mouse. Use the panel on the left to specify which Social Media system you wish to search and the keyword to search for. If you have previously used the Map My Tweet example to create a location specific you will see it appear on the Social Media map. It will be slightly abstracted to protect privacy. Other tweets may be plotted using specific location or by geocoding location information from the User's profile.
