About this Map
This Interactive Map demonstrates using the map comparison template for ArcGIS Online maps. This particular template enables you to compare
three maps side-by-side. It can provide real insight into
data that is changing over time, or data on different themes for the
same place. In this example we have presented a time series of the CORINE land cover data for 1990, 2000 and 2006.
ArcGIS.com Map Templates are an excellent way to quickly deploy a web mapping application based on a web service you have already published via ArcGIS Server. They are simple templates designed for common web mapping scenarios. The Templates are typically engineered in JavaScript so they will run without browser plug-in's. This makes them especially useful for public facing applications.
The Templates are open source and can be downloaded from here. Any template can be User configured by a process fully described in the download. If you modify or extend a Template you can share them with the community via our App Gallery where you may also avail of Templates previoulsy shared by others.
To use this application you can navigate any map by pan /zoom using your mouse, then right click to synchronize the scale and/or location across the three maps to see how any particular location has changed through time. You can permanently synchronise the maps and explore all three at once. The Identify Tool is also synchronised – clicking on the Identify icon and then on any one Map returns results from all three telling you what the land cover class is at a location for each of the three years. To read how we created this map see our blog post.
CORINE provides a comprehensive
Map of National Land Cover classified into 44 standardised classes for the entire EU and parts of North Africa. The minimum
mapping uint is 25 hectares and CORINE is suited to regional level
investigation of land cover.
