Many organisations have made a significant investment in collecting geographic information. Often this information underpins business decisions and must be made widely available to support decision makers throughout the organisation.

It is neither practical nor economically viable to deploy the full power of ArcGIS Desktop to everyone in the organisation. However the innovative architecture of our server products enable us to build Intranet applications which expose only the specific functionality necessary to support your particular business workflow.

ESRI Ireland specialises in distributing geographic information across the Corporate Intranet using simple Web Clients applications and Smart Client tools. These applications can enable executives visualize, query and most importantly analyse geographic information as an aid to decision support or evidence based decision making.

Although Internet and Intranet mapping applications can both use browser based applications in our experience there are subtle differences in design approach for the Intranet.

Intranet mapping applications tend to require more sophisticated functionality. Using the unique Geoprocessing capability of ArcGIS we can author a model representing the spatial logic of your business process and publish this as a task service on ArcGIS Server. Once published task services can then be consumed by our Web Clients, Smart Client or any bespoke application built using our Web Mapping API’s. This approach means that we can deploy highly sophisticated functionality in a very targeted way insulating Corporate users from the technology issues whilst supporting their specific needs.

Intranet mapping applications usually need to be deployed in predetermined corporate technical environment. ArcGIS Server versions are available to suit most popular environments and our Web Mapping API’s are the most flexible on the market supporting JavaScript, Adobe FLEX, Microsoft Silverlight, Microsoft SharePoint, .NET and Java.

Intranet mapping applications often need to present a Business Initelligence (BI) view of corporate spatial data. For organisations that use the Microsoft Technology Stack the ESRI MapIt platform offers a light touch Geographic Information Server when coupled with a SQL Server instance. MapIt services can be consumed in either SharePoint or bespoke applications built using our Microsoft Silverlight API.

To help kick start your Intranet mapping project we usually recommend the ESRI FLEX Viewer, this is a “soft product” which with services from ESRI Ireland can be configured to meet most Internet mapping requirements. If this is not suitable for your particular requirement we can build a bespoke application using our Web Mapping API’s.

Rich Functionality

Using sophisticated “Rich Internet Application” (RIA) technologies such as Adobe FLEX and Microsoft Silverlight it is now possible for us to deliver browser based applications that offer a user experience more akin to a desktop application. Our innovative ESRI FLEX Viewer can get you up an running quickly and we can use our Geoprocesing framework and Web Mapping API’s to develop bespoke Widgets to enhance functionality. We have a Business Intelligence (BI) system that presents key performance indicators and we want these to be presented geographically, what do you advise?

We can work with your BI Team to pull key the key indicators into geographical context using either ArcGIS Server or MapIt and present the resultant views in the ESRI FLEX Viewer or a bespoke Microsoft Silverlight Application.

Yes. ESRI Ireland provides an Advanced Query widget for the FLEX Viewer that emulates the Select by Location and Select by Attribute capabilities of ArcGIS Desktop.

Is it possible to raise alerts in your Intranet application based on the status of records in our corporate database?

The ESRI FLEX Viewer incorporates a Live layer Widget which can poll a database table at a time interval and retrieve features and their status. The features can then be drawn on the map with appropriate symbolization to attract the attention of the User.

Our Organisation has six Operational Departments can we display all their information on the map?

Yes. You can choose to deploy a single FLEX Viewer site and present information in categories and sub-categories or alternatively you may wish to deploy multiple sites each with a particular topic.

How do I to query information by location and attribute in the FLEX View?

ESRI Ireland provide an Advanced Query widget for the FLEX Viewer that emulates the Select by Location and Select by Attribute capabilities of ArcGIS Desktop.
