Corporate Systems

If you are interested in how to exploit spatial technology throughout your businesses workflows, ESRI Ireland can help. Through our work on some of the largest implementations of GIS in Ireland North and South we have gained a depth and breath of experience in implementing enterprise class geographic information systems.

Over the past number of years we have helped many of our Customers develop their systems from being simple desktop implementations to becoming a key element of their information architecture. Often this involves implementing spatial technology across desktop, database, server, web and mobile channels. This class of Corporate System requires a robust technology, well proven implementation methodologies and a certain vision to ensure a successful outcome.

At ESRI Ireland we can help you exploit the full potential of GIS in your particular business. We have access to;

  • The ArcGIS technology stack which is a holistic and integrated environment for the creation, management, visualization and analysis of spatial data. ArcGIS consists of an integrated suite of components spanning desktop, database, server, web and mobile channels.
  • An extensive set of “best practice” patterns in enterprise class systems implementation which we share with our Customers via our Resource Centre and our System Design Strategies documents.
  • A staff of Consultants with the professional competencies, experience and vision to help you exploit the potential our technology can offer to your business.

Integrated System

  • Full scale, integrated corporate GIS implementations require a solid technology foundation. It is often difficult for Customers to build this using diverse technology from multiple suppliers with complex fault prone interfaces. That’s why ArcGIS is engineered as a single integrated system. ArcGIS is an integrated collection of GIS software products that provides a standards-based platform for spatial analysis, data management, and mapping.
  • ArcGIS is not a single application rather it is an integrated and holistic system delivered as a single, scalable integrated technology stack. It incorporates a data management tier, a server tier, and a client tier with multiple channels including desktop, smart client, thin client and mobile.
  • All ArcGIS client channels interact with the data tier via a single consistent software interface engineered using a Microsoft .COM object model called ArcObjects.

Open Interfaces

To integrate with your business process in a Corporate environment we engineer our ArcGIS implementations with a comprehensive set of open interfaces.

  • We fully support and are certified against all relevant IT and GIS industry standards.
  • We support all significant commercial relational database platforms.
  • Our system has database, server, web client, smart client and mobile client facilities all conforming to a common set of architectural principles.
  • Our systems can be accessed by a range of client software commercially available or downloadable from the Internet.
  • Data can be provided to our systems and more importantly recovered from them in over 70 industry standard formats.
  • All application programming of our systems use industry standard development languages and development environments for which skills are readily available in the marketplace.
  • All of our core software systems are fully documented.  All of that documentation is publicly available online Help System and Resource Centre.
  • We work actively with many industries to develop open published industry-specific data models made available online on our Data Models page.
  • We support online forums for the exchange of information, ideas, software and best practice associated with our technology
  • Through our publishing house and online campus we support users in enhancing their own professional capabilities.

Strong Methodologies

To ensure that our systems are implemented according to best practice we continually invest in our people and equip them with best practice implementation patterns.

  • Our staff are qualified and certified in a range of relevant technologies.
  • We invest a significant proportion of our revenue in keeping our staff up to date in ESRI and other relevant technologies via formal training, informal peer support and attendance at conferences.
  • We adhere to ESRI Inc., published best practice where it can benefit our Customers and use our experience to adapt it for local conditions and Customer preferences.

Is ArcGIS supported on virtualised infrastructures?

Yes. ArcGIS is supported on virtual servers. This document provides an overview of virtualization and addresses some of the most common questions regarding ArcGIS Server and virtualization, including major decision factors for considering virtualization and the advantages of deploying ArcGIS Server in a virtualized environment.

We are implementing a Services Orientated Architecture (SOA), can ArcGIS Server be supported using common SOA protocols.

Yes. ArcGIS Server was engineered with implementation within a SOA in mind. All ArcGIS Server web services expose SOAP interfaces and WSDL’s are automatically created on service publication.
