It is an often quoted statistic that some 80% of information has a geographic element. What is less well emphasised is that that statistic, if true, relies greatly on the fact that most information records are associated with a postal address. In jurisdictions where a postal address may be readily converted to a geographic location the geographic element can be readily accessed.
However, due to the unique nature of Irish address systems, it is rarely the case that address based information can be easily visualised or analysed in its geographic form. Our experience is that many, if not all, organisations seeking to exploit the powerful business, social or environmental benefits’ of GIS also have an associated address management issue.
Some of the address management issues that we can help you overcome include;
- Multiple address databases.
- Duplication within and between address databases.
- Standardisation and Matching of addresses.
- Geo-coding of address records against known reference frames such as GeoDirectory, Pointer, Navteq, TeleAtlas or web services such as Microsoft bing.
- Catering for non addressable properties and/or assets.
- Development of Corporate Gazetteer applications.
We can help you address these issues in the context of an ArcGIS implementation using ESRI Locator technology embedded in ArcGIS or completely independently of ArcGIS using the ESRI (UK) LocatorHub product.
