Esri Ireland has developed specially tailored software packages for schools, colleges, universities, museums and libraries. These are available through various channels to all educational establishments.

National University of Ireland, Maynooth - Esri Development Centre Status (EDC)

In 2011 Esri Ireland awarded National University of Ireland (NUI) Maynooth the status of ‘Esri Development Centre’ (EDC), a global programme which recognises universities that deliver exemplary education and research programmes in Geographic Information System (GIS). There are twenty six EDCs at universities around the globe and NUI Maynooth has become the first academic institution in Ireland to be awarded the status. Under the terms of the programme, students enrolled in the University’s EDC programmes receive access to Esri software and have opportunities to win special awards from Esri for their accomplishments. In partnership with NUIM Esri Ireland also have a PHD Student working with ArcGIS Server on a number of Envrionmental Solutions.

Chest Agreement and Other Universities

Geographic Information Systems in higher education provide an integrated solution to assist faculty and students with their educational goals. GIS is no longer just for geography departments. By putting information in the context of geography, GIS can be applied across several fields of study to enhance learning and teaching. Continued investment by Esri in higher education through a combination of CHEST, special tutor/student pricing and home-use licensing facilitates the cost effective use and application of world class GIS technology by lecturers, tutors and students in universities and colleges throughout Ireland. Through these educational programs Esri is assisting students in becoming effective thinkers with the knowledge and skills that will lead them toward becoming meaningful contributors to society. We work with University of Ulster, University College Cork and DIT Bolton Street.
